Pasture Raised Pork

Plenty of room to roam

Plenty of room to roam

Plenty of room to roam

Raised on 13 acres of pasture and forested areas with access to pecan and oak trees. We do not use pesticides or herbicides on our pig pasture areas.  We do not give our pigs antibiotics, hormones or vaccinations.

We follow a natural approach to maintain pig health. Their feed is supplemented with natural things they consume as they explore. Nuts, grasses, clover and minerals from rooting.

Rotational Grazing

Plenty of room to roam

Regularly moved to provide fresh grazing and rooting. Previous ground allowed to recover for the next round. Planted with cereal rye in fall for winter grazing and fresh grains in late spring.

While on our farm, we treat all our animals with respect and constant care. Water always available. Feeders never empty. Wallows filled twice a day during the hot summer months to keep them cool.  Endless supply of head scratches and belly rubs.

The Mangalista Pig

History

This is an old heritage  breed from  Hungary. It is known there as the Mangalica - which means "hog with a lot of lard". They are slow growing, taking twice as long as common breeds used in commercial farms to gain enough weight to be brought to market.

Better taste

The meat from this pig is often referred to as the Kobe of pork.  Modern commercial breeds have an extremely low fat content in the muscle tissue. The fat only surrounds it.  The Mangalista has fat marbling in the muscle tissue. This results in a much better tasting cut of meat. The fat is high in monosaturated fat and rich in Omega 3. Once you taste it, you'll understand why we chose this breed.
